Objective To evaluate the short-term clinical efficacy of Silicone-tube Intubation (SI) with mitomycin C (MMC) in treating chronic dacryocystitis. Methods 81 cases (84 eyes) with chronic dacryocystitis were randomly divided into MMC-treat group and control group. In MMC-treat group,41 cases (42 eyes) were treated with Silicone-tube Intubation (SI), then MMC (0.4mg/ml) was injected into lacrimal duct and kept for 5 minutes before cleaning with normal saline. In control group,40 patients (42 eyes) were treated the same as above but without Mitomycin C. Silicone tubes were removed after 1 month. All cases were followed up for 4 months. Results In MMC-treat group,83.3% was recovered and 97.6% was effective. In control group,64.3% was recovered and 80.95% was effective. The cure rate and effective rate in the MMC-treat group were both higher than them in control group. The difference between two groups was significant (P<0.05).Conclusions The application of MMC can improve the clinical efficacy of Silicone-tube Intubation (SI) in treating chronic dacryocystitis...
