The Appraisal On Ornamental Solanaceous Vegetables And Studies On Its Application At Home Gardening

In the present study, we evaluted the the omamental value of 21 ornamental solanaceous vegetables and investigated the shade tolerance and drought tolerance of 8 species. The results are as follows:1.Accroding to the characterisetics of ornamental solanaceous vegetables, a multifactoririal appraisal system based on the Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP) is developed to get the ornamental value of ornamental solanaceous vegetables. According to the multifactoririal appraisal system, 21 ornamental solanaceous vegetables are judged. 21 ornamental solanaceous vegetables were divided into 4 grades: the first grades (≥3.6): excellect ornamental value, a total of 5 cultivars; the second grades (3.6-3.2): higher ornamental value, total 6; the third grades(3.2-2.5): general Ornamental value, total 9; the fourth grades (≤2.5): poor ornamental value, total 1. This would provide base theory for application of ornamental solanaceous vegetables.2.The effects of different light intensity on the morphological characteristics, chlorophyll concent, light compensation point (LCP) and light saturation point (LSP) were studied. A conclusion has been made that the effect of weak light on feizhouhongqie, ziyu tomato was most significant (P<0.05) while aihuang tomato, mantianxing pepper were nearly not influenced by weak light.3.The appraisal of the drought tolerance ability have been made in 8 ornamental solanaceous vegetables, and content of holding water, relative conductivity, MDA content and the activity of SOD, POD and CAT in leaves were measured. Aihuang tomato and Mantianxing pepper were most drought tolerant cultivars among the 8 cultivars while caiqie tomato was most sensitive to drought stress.4.The application of ornamental solanaceous vegetables at home gardening was investigated.It can be widely used in the balcony, courtyard, roof and others. Based on the evaluation of ornamental characteristics and adaptability, we should use different cultivation and management techniques in the different environmental conditions.
