As society progresses, people requires not only high efficiency, but also that the security requirements are riser and riser as well in labor and production. According to this view, this paper applies the finite element theory to the design of tractor cab and allows the driver to work safely.A model of the tractor cab is established by using CAD software Pro/Engineer. A finite element model is achieved with the help of pre--processor and post-processor software ALTAIR/HYPERMESH. The static test process is simulated in the situation of rear-pushing, rear-crushing, side-pushing, front-crushing and front-pushing by ANSYS. The analysis result indicates that the stress of the cab is less than the utmost intension. And the cab meets the design. Secondly, the modal analysis of the cab is carried out. And modes of the modal vibration and corresponding natural frequencies are calculated. The local intensity of the cab is considered through the frequencies and modes. Finally, a parametric model of the cab's components is established. And the optimized thicknesses of the cab's components are achieved with thinking the thicknesses as design variables and the total mass of the cab as the design objective. The result indicates that the weight of the cab is decreased and the raw material of the cab is saved. This study shows that the finite element method and ANSYS software provide a set of good basic theory and method for the cab's structural and dynamic characteristic simulation and optimization designs, which not only lay the foundation for the tractor's vibration, fatigue, noise and so on, but also provide a guiding significance for practice to the factory.
