Study On Introduction Of Central Plains Tree Peony In Baotou Area

Tree peony (Paeonia suffruticosa Andr.), which belongs to paeonia, paeoniaceae, is an endemic ornamental plant germplasm resource of China, Central plain tree peony is the most widely distributed and the oldest cultivated groups of tree peony in our country. It is widely distributed in Henan, Shandong, Hebei, Beijing, Shanxi and Shaanxi and other regions, the main cultivation centers is Heze in Shandong and Luoyang in Henan, and many other places. This group is not only rich in color, high ornamental value, but also has strong adaptability, both of the drought tolarence and cold tolarence types are existed, also the types of heat and moisture tolarence. At present, central plains tree peony becomes a hot research point in the introduction of tree peony.In this study, we introduced 15 cultivars of central plains tree peony from Luoyang of Henan province to Jiuyuan town Baoyou city of Inner Mongolia, including 'Yao Huang', 'Wei Zi', 'Er Qiao', 'Luoyang Hong', 'Zhao Fen', 'Da Huhong', 'Yu Huang Yi', 'Jin lunhung', 'Zhuangyuan Hong', 'Lohan Hong', 'Yan hong', 'Shou Anhong', 'Shiba Hao', 'Mo Sajin' and 'Kunshan Yeguang'. The phenological phases, bearing period, plant height, plant type, flower colours and pest situation were systematically observed. To screen out the cultivars of tree peony which are suitable for application and popularization in Baotou, their ornamental values were evaluated by gray-correlation analytical method and their abilities of cold tolerance were studied. Based on this, the application of tree peony in landscape was discussed.The chief results are as follows:1. Observation of introducing varieties showed: Under the climatic conditions of Baotou City, all the 15 cultivars of introduced tree peony can grow, flowering, and complete the entire life cycle normally if reasonable measures of cultivation and management were taken. (2) The phenological phases of Central plains Peony were significant differences from each other, 'Da Huhong' flower in May 6th, 'Yan Hong' Flower latest at May 24, their flowering time discrepance up to 18 days. The length of flowering time of tree peony is between 7 to 17 days, the discrepance up to 10 days. (3)The bearing period of tree peony also has significant differences from cultivar to cultivar.The time from bolting to flowering of the introduced 15 cultivars of central plains tree peony is between 54 days to 71 days. The time of 'Yan Hong' need 71 days, lasts the longest time, while 'Da Huhong' need the shortest time only 54 days.2. The evaluating result of ornamental values revealed: According to the evaluation result of ornamental value by gray-correlation analytical method, the order from high to low is 'kunshan Yeguang' >'Yao Huang' >'Zhao Fen' >'Da Huhong' >'Weizi' >'Yu Huangyi' >'Shi Bahao' >'Er Qiao' >'Jin Lunhuang' >'Shou Anhong' >'Mo Sajin' >'Luo Hanhong' >'Luo yanhong' >'Yan Hong' >'Zhuangyuan Hong'. Among them, 'Yao Huang', 'Wei Zi', 'Zhao Fen', 'Da Huhong', 'Yu Huangyi', 'Shi Bahao' and 'Kunshan Yeguang' not only have higher survival rate, but also have high ornamental value. These cultivars can be considered used for landscape directly in Baotou city; 'Er Qiao', 'Jinlun Huang', 'Shou Anhong' and 'Mo Sajin', have high ornamental value, but the adaptability to Baotou city is not very high, So Protected cultivation or establishment cultivation can be used; 'Luoyang Hong ', ' Zhuangyuan Hong ', ' Lohan Hong' and 'Yan Hong' have poor ornamental value performance after the introduction, and are not suitable for cultivation in Baotou city.3. The results of cold research shown: Cold researches were taken to 'Kunshan Yeguang', 'Yan Hong', 'Shou Anhong', 'Shi Bahao' and 'Mo Sajin' from different grades of adaptability which compartmentalized by gray-correlation analytical method. According to study the change of membrane permeability, the activity of SOD, the content of MDA and soluble sugar under low temperature, after comprehensive evaluating, their cold resistance order are as follows : 'Kunshan Yeguang' >'Yan Hong' >'Shou Anhong' >'Shi Bahao' >'Mo Sajin'.
