| Wintersweet (Chimonanthus praecox) is a Chinese winter-flowering endemic plant endemicwith high value of ornamental and economic. Wintersweet is widely distributed in China.Wintersweet is a good garden tree and economic tree which is native to south and north of China,making the environment beautiful, green and full of fragrance. However, the existing cultivars ofwintersweet are in a mess in China. Based on complete survey and classification of wintersweetcultivar resources in north of Henan province, this paper evaluated the ornamental characteristicsof wintersweet cultivars in order to further discuss the cultivars classification system which willbe as the production practice reference. This paper found out that:1.The wintersweet cultivars are investigated in north of Henan province from January toFebruary in2010and January to March in2011. Through local area systematic classification andfinishing of wintersweet cultivars resources,86cultivars were recorded in detail, including32varieties of Chimonanthus praecox Concolor Group,25varieties of Chimonanthus praecoxIntermedius Group and29varieties of Chimonanthus praecox Patens Group.And there were17new cultivars.2.Based on discussion about taxonomical characters, principles and grades of wintersweetcultivars, existing cultivar classification system of wintersweet were summarized and revised thecharacteristics and description language of wintersweet cultivars. Further more, namingprinciples of Chimonanthus praecox were proposed.3.Identification key to86wintersweet cultivars in north of Henan province was compiledaccording to the diversity characters.4.Based on the primary research and the phenophases and characteristics of wintersweet inChina, Anyang Wintersweet Garden, the paper summarized the planting and conservationmeasures of wintersweet for China, Anyang Wintersweet Garden. From the ornamentalcharacteristics, adaptability, landscape application three aspects, wintersweet cultivars whichwere introduced to North of Henan Province were analyzed and evaluated comprehensively.27cultivars with excellent ornamental traits were picked out and the factors restricting wintersweetintroduction in Northern Areas were pointed out. |
