Througth analyse the cultivated land resource of gansu province, potato planter pattern and problems existing in the present small potato digger, most of potato planting in Gansu Province are small and medium-sized plots, more sloping field and less plain field, cause mechanical operation degree is hard to improve. For along time, Potato digging mainly depend on artificial digging and animal power in most region of Gansu province, machine received at a very small proportion of the area. Variety of existing potato digger, but most are not suitable for small plots and level terrace of the operation, which will seriously restricted the development of the potato industry in Gansu Province.Therefore, To meet the needs of the potato industry, after comprehensive considerat- ion of Gansu Province's potato planting patterns and planting distribution, cultivated land resources and soil types, the existing tractor ownership, problems existing in the present small potato digger and advantage of foreign potato digger. Potato digger which is suitable for potato planting patterns of Gansu Province is designed. This paper mainly make an intensive study of the following aspects.(1) The system analysis of potato biomechanical properties's research summary reveals the damage mechanism of potato harvesting, and provides theoretical bases for studying equipments of low injury potato harvesting, thereby reduces mechanical injure of potato harvesting and improve economic benefit.(2) Digger's functions and the whole structure programs are determined based on Potato digger's design requirements.(3) Combining the vibration frequency of digging shovel,the position and speed of the tractor motive power output axis, power transmission scheme is determined, and make detailed design and theoretical calculation to its main transmission components.(4) A stepped digging shovel is desigened by analysis the type and function of the digging shovel and performance of the existing digging shovel. Througth theoretical analysis and compute determines key parameters of digging shovel; A type of shaking separate device is designed based on comprehensive consideration kind, function, advantages and disadvantages of existing separation devices. Througth theoretical analysis and compute determines key parameters of separation devices.(5) Using Pro/E creates a prototype three-dimensional solid model, based on the software of ADAMS, simulation model of potato digger is founded, the better combination of vibration institutions's eccentricity and driven shaft's revolving speed is determined; The kinematic and dynamic curves of vibrating shovel and shaking sieve are obtained, and calculates frequency and amplitude of shovel and sieve; Combining structural design and simulation analysis makes prototype of potato digger in factory.(6) The static intension calculation and analysis of potato digger's frame and digging shovel have done using ANSYS, the intension whether meets requirements or not is proved.
