Experiments were conducted to investigate the effect of sex of 24-wk-old Nick Pink on apparent metabolizable of eight feedstuffs. Protein and energy of basal diet were substituted separately by dried sweet potatoes, rice bran, pearl millet and brown rice as energy supplements while sunflowers meal, sorghum-distiller's grains, corn gluten meal and corn-distillers dried grains with soluble (DDGS) as protein supplements. The results showed that the difference of AME between roosters and laying hens on energy feeds like rice bran and brown rice for Nick Pink was significant(P<0.05) , and the average results on laying hens were higher than roosters of that by 0.61 MJ / kg and 1.03 MJ / kg, respectively. There was no significant difference on sex of AME of sweet potatoes, millet and sunflower meal, sorghum-distiller's grains, corn gluten meal and DDGS (P>0.05). All the AME of hens were higher than roosters of that. The AME of rice bran, brown rice, sunflower meal, sorghum-distiller's grains and corn gluten meal were all lower than the reference value from the Chinese feed database (2009), as while as dried sweet potatoes, pearl millet and DDGS got the opposite results exactly.Apparent metabolic rate of crude protein of rice bran and sunflowers meal, sorghum-distiller's grains and DDGS three protein supplements between the male and female was significantly (P<0.05), and the average results on laying hens were higher than roosters of that by 5.52%,6.22%,8.75%,9.86%, respectively, while corn gluten meal and the rest of three energy supplements such as sweet potato, millet and brown rice was not significant between the sex of the bird(P>0.05). All the apparent metabolic rate of crude protein of hens was higher than roosters of that. Except for brown rice, the apparent metabolic rate of dry matter of was significantly (P<0.05), and the other 7 kinds of feedstuffs were not significantly different (P>0.05).The metabolism rate of ether extract were not significantly (P>0.05) in all treatments. It can come to the conclusion that sex is influential to the layer feedstuffs metabolism. By the way, the food intake was different between sex.Hen's feed intake was extremely higher than the cock' (P<0.01).But the body weight have got a non-significant gain during the whole trial (P>0.05). Cocks have got a large body gain than hens'.
