Purple sulfur bacteria paly an important role in the evolution process of earth and the origin of life. The new findings could change our knowledge to C, N and S cycle in the marine environment. Studies on purple sulfur bacteria in China are still poor. Mangrove ecoenvironment were paid more attention in recent years. The mangrove was chosed as screening sources of purple sulfur bacteria in this study. The main results are as follows:A novel isolate, designated as Marichromatium gracile YL28 was obtained from inshore mangrove sediment near Luoyang Bridge in Quanzhou of Fujian Province by repeated agar dilution shake method and identified by microscope techniques, Uv-Vis absorption spectra, thin layer chromatography and HPLC-MS and 16S rRNA gene sequence analysisThe effects of media and culture condition on biomass were further investigated in this study. The results showed that biomass was improved significantly after opitimizationThe relationship between substrates utilization and light utilization were examined in this study. The results showed that strain YL28 could perform the the growth mode of photoautotroph, photoheterotroph and chemoheterotroph. Substrate types affected significantly on pigment content, but little on composition.
