The puperpose of this study was to compare the vitro antibacterial activity, viable count of lactobacillus LB-19 (LB-19) devoleped by Microbiology Laboratory of Sichuan Agricultural University to three other probiotics products stored for six months; To evaluate the therapeutic effectiveness of LB-19 against bacterial diarrhea in suckling piglets and effect on growth performance, fecal microflora concentration and immunity in weaning pigs. This study compared the four probiotics:Amway lactobacillus(Amway), Chuanxiu lactobacillus powder(chuanxiu) and Puritan's Pride lactobacillus acidophilus capsules(Puritan's) and LB-19 keeped for six months. The result showed that Amway and LB-19 viable count was significantly higher than the others (P<0.01). Amway, LB-19, Puritan's and Chuanxiu showed antimicrobial effect on Enteropathoginc Escherichia coli(EPEC),Salmonella choleraesuis (S. choleraesuis), the maximum inhibition zones was 21.17mm,19.27mm,10.45mm,12.35mm and 19.99mm,18.37mm,16.98mm and 13.56mm respectively, the first two showed extremely significant stronger antimicrobial activity than the other two products (P<0.01). The result indicated that Amway and LB-19 was better than the same kind products in preservation and antibacterial effects.Using a piglet model, to investigate the therapeutic effectiveness of LB-19 against bacterial diarrhea in suckling compared with antibiotics. The result showed that LB-19 had a longer time of treatment than the antibiotic treatment group, the cure rates were equivalent. But in the later observation, LB-19 treatment group had a significantly lower rate of dug resistance and diarrhea than the control treatment group. On the prevention of diarrhea in weaning piglets, piglets had a diarrhea rate of 5.03%, significantly lower than the control group 46.26% (P<0.05); Average daily gain(ADG) was higher than the control group 9.8%; Feed/gain(F/G) was the same as the control group. Fecal lactobacillus concentration in feces was significantly higher, while fecal E. coli concentration was significantly lower than the control group. IgG content in the experimental group was higher than the control. The results suggested that pigs receiving LB-19 would reduce the incidence of weaning diarrhea and maintain a greater ADG and enhance immunologic activity, associate with lower concentrations of fecal E.coli, higher concentrations of fecal lactobacillus. on the therapeutic effect of suckling piglets LB-19 can be comparable with antibiotics, what's more, LB-19 can be used constantly, and will not encounter drug resistance, which is better than antibiotics.
