With the rapid development of China's industrial production, the increasingly large market demands for gantry cranes. Because so far many gantry cranes manufacturing enterprises are designing products in the traditional design methods, the work of designing and modifing the products is tedious and a long period.This method has been unable to meet the development requirements of the market. So for the specific case this paper put forward the concept of gantry crane structure of digital design.So far in the design process of gantry cranes, Pro/Engeer software system is used for three-dimensional modeling, simulation, interference testing and generating engineer drawings. In addition the model information is stored and delivered to the production of the manufacturing process. In gantry crane analysis process, ANSYS software system,as the finite element analysis software, are used for checking structure. In order to give better play to the advantage of Pro/Engeer and ANSYS software, the two kinds of software are integrated in use of Pro/Toolkit and APDL as the secondary development of language in the Visual C++2008programming environment. The user-friendly parametric design system is designed. Only if the user enters the specific design parameters, the geometric parameters of the model of the metal structure of gantry cranes and the finite element parametric model could be established. This method avoids the secondary modeling. According to the crane design specification GB/T3811-2008, the load combinations combined with the actual work of the gantry crane is established to calculate and check the strength and stiffness. The data support is prompted for design of the gantry cranes. In this paper, the main beam structure of the gantry crane is optimized in use of the optimization algorithm. Gantry crane design has become more reasonable.By the parametric modeling, finite element analysis and optimization process of the metal structure of the gantry cranes, the digital design of the metal structure of the gantry cranes is accomplished.The user inputs interface to modify the parameters, then the system can quickly update the data to regenerate into a new geometric model and finite element model, the rapid completion of the calculation of the structure of the gantry cranes and optimizing the structure to make the material can get fully utilized.At the same time the stress distribution becomes more reasonable and the stiffness meet to the design specification. And the efficiency of product design is improved, the cost of production is decreased and the market competitiveness of the gantry crane manufacturing enterprises is enhanced. This method is of great significance to the gantry cranes in the future design work and other similar cranes, such as portal cranes, quayside container cranes, also have some reference to reference.
