In recent years, with the high speed of development in port industry, the utilization of the mobile machinery has gradually increased at port. As the primary fuel of port mobile machinery, the price of diesel is always high around the world and will return to increase due to the recovery of the world economy. Anyway, more and more people are awarded of the environmental issues, the new clean energy alternative to diesel fuel is required by circumstances. And then, the increasing energy cost has become an unavoidable problem, especially for some energy-consuming enterprises, in which the energy cost is a matter of life and death. Liquefied Natural Gas is a kind of energy to meet the mentioned demands, and has a considerable advantage over dynamic property, economical efficiency and environmental protection when used on vehicles.Tianjin Port is a modern international port, where loading-and-unloading operations have been fully realized mechanization because of development on science and technology, and has a considerable number of handling equipment. It is the dual requirement of self-development and social responsibility to reduce the energy consumption of these devices, reduce toxic emissions and save energy costs for port.Based on the use of LNG at Tianjin port, firstly, the development status of LNG application at home and abroad has been analyzed, as well as the reserve distributing situation and consumption trend. Then, the development and application of some new automobile-used energy has been introduced.Secondly, the different types of LNG engines has been analyzed, the structural differences between LNG equipment and diesel equipment and the current status of tractors at port has been elaborated. There is a theoretic analysis on the dynamic property and safety performance of LNG application on mobile machinery at port. And to the economical efficiency, according to the data and parameters we collected from test, investment recovery period and economic sensitivity have been calculated.Finally, combined with the actual production conditions at Tianjin port, we select a type of LNG tractor, design a program to test it, and debug it to achieve the best condition.
