Anthracite deposits in China accounted for around15%,Because of high degree ofcarbonation,low volatile, so its most used to electricity power generation. W-shapedboiler furnance with its long flame tour, burning less air flow, good stability incombustion, suitable for anthracite combustion. The purpose of this paper is to study oncombustion characteristics of W-shaped boiler furnance by numerical simulation andimproving combustion efficiency.In this paper ICEM CFD is used to mesh the model and Fluent is applicated tomumerical simuate the cold state and hot condition of a Foster Wheeler W-shaped boilerfurnance with capacity of600MW. Firstly use the BMCR condition as a basic conditionfor the calculation, analyze the characteristics of flows, combustion and componentdistribution. And then simulate seven different conditions of cold and thermal state.According to the results can analyze the characteristics of different ratios of airdistribution on the arch, different of arch wind angle and change secondary air ratio ofunder the arch,different ratio of primary air.Because of the high levels of temperature while combustion, leading to a highgereneration of thermal NOx in W-shaped boiler furnance,and with the growing attentionto the NOx essions, reduction of the NOx emissions in W-shaped boiler furnance isincreasingly necessary. This article introduced over fired air vents according to theconcept of staged combustion. OFA vent located in the throat of W-flame boiler, OFAvents with three different heights and its air have three different rates, the purpose for thisis to study the affects of combustion and the emission of NOx while opening OFA ventsin subcritical W-shaped boiler furnance and then provides reference for real reform.This paper concludes several diffculties in numerical simulation of W-shaped boilerfurnance and lists some aspects in further calcultion and research.
