China is abundant in natural gas resource, with future reserves of as much as 56 trillion m3. As a clean and efficient fuel, nature gas is widely used because it is convenient, pollution-free and can be fully burned. With the development of technology and social economy, the production of natural gas in China increases steadily every year.In recent years, due to the massive construction of "energy speedway" (natural gas pipelines), the need of the relative "cash registers" (commercial gas flow computers) rises rapidly. At present, however, these flow computers used in our country are all imported. In this paper, after an analysis and summary of the mainstream gas flow computers abroad, a kind of low-cost, multi-functional, configurable and meeting the measurement standard gas flow computers was designed, which improved the performance of the current flow computers effectively.This paper includes:1. An analysis and summary of the mainstream gas flow computers abroad; then the proposal of a kind of flow computers based on S3C6410X (ARM11) MCU, Embedded Linux OS, multi card slots and bus network.2. Overall design, including the gas flow computer and the host configuration software.3. Test of the highly accurate compress factor algorithm AGA8 and SGERG-88 and the consistent results with the National Standard GB/T 17747-1999 (EQV ISO 12213-1997).4. Prelimilary test of the gas flow computer and the satisfied results with the predetermined requirements.The predominant features or innovation points in this paper are as follows:1. Compression factor algorithm optimization.2. Using the ARM11, with a vector float processing hardware as the main control chip. It makes the system meet the requirement of real-time compensation and accurate measurement by reducing the running time of the complicated high accurate compensation algorithm.3. Design of the "system board-flow cards-base board" structure. The flow card is in charge of managing all the data of one pipeline, which can reduce the complexity of the communication protocol and increase the scalability of the system.
