The Study Of Ground Covers In Garden Landscape In Hangzhou City

As the important material in garden landscape, ground cover plays an irreplaceable role. Ground cover has various types, different colors, and it's fertile. It has multiple functions in climatic regulation, soil and water preservation, noise reduction, and air cleaning.As a beautiful city in East China, Hangzhou City has four seasons, mild climate, and the leadership in gardening. Therefore, the research in garden landscape and seasonal changes will do good to the promotion in garden landscape, increase people the knowledge of garden landscape, and it will provide a valuable reference for us in garden landscape.The definition of ground cover is discussed firstly. Then, its current application in Hangzhou City is also talked here by investigation, questionnaire, and data collection. Distribution and resources of ground covers are mainly studied from configuration, ecology, plant aesthetics and economics.Based on collected data and investigation, there are 695 kinds of ground cover plants belonged to 96 families and 316 genuses, which can live through the winter in Hangzhou City. All the ground covers in Hangzhou present the distribution character of tropical-subtropical-the warm temperate zone. Most of ground covers in Hangzhou are perennial herbs. On the contrary, less is one and biennial, bamboo, fern, shrub, climber. And, the ratio of short type, middle type, and high type is nearly 1:1:1. Fortunately, most of them have better adaptability. However, different types have different Ornamental characteristics. In Hangzhou gardens, liliaceous plant and compositae are mainly planted ground covers.Meanwhile, based on the study of garden landscape in Hangzhou City and analysis of seasonal community configuration, the characteristics of seasonal changes are presented. According to different gardens of Viewing Fish at Flower Pond, Hangzhou Botanical Garden, Breeze-ruffled Lotus at Quyuan Garden and Prince Bay Park, the integral style of seasonal community configuration is got. Trees, shrubs and ground covers make the landscape configuration. And, trees play a dominant role in it. However, each garden has its special characteristics. There are landscapes configured by ground cover only in some gardens. For example, there is Peony Garden in Viewing Fish at Flower Pond; there is Baicao Garden in Hangzhou Botanical Garden. Therefore, Ground cover will present great landscape for us. In a word, the purpose of this study is to promote the configuration of ground cover and seasonal phenomena. I hope ground cover will make better ecology action for urban residents and provide better living environment for the people.
