| This study explores the art of building skin from the perspective of its artistic expression. It starts from the developmental process of the art of building skin and emphasises on its artistic expression through analysing the elements and materials that constitute building skin and illustration of related examples. The thesis consists of four parts: firstly, the status quo and backgrounds of studies on the artistic expression of building skin; secondly, the developmental process of building skin; thirdly, the elements and materials used in the art of building skin, and lastly, the prosperity of the art of building skin informed by the exhibition buildings in the 2010 Shanghai World Expo. This study attempts to review the status quo of the art of building skin and to provide implications for its future development. |
