The performance of auto-starter is one key criterion of automobile. Because of the deficiencies of existing auto-starter mechanical performances measurement methods, a Continuous Speed Measurement method with Torque Theoretic Correction is presented. According to the requirements of starter performance test, the scheme of testing system software and hardware design is proposed. A test system, with high-precision and high-stability features, is then, designed based on PXI bus platform. In view of DC power supply's properties, a PID Voltage Tracking Controller is designed to track starter's current in real-time. Due to the diversities of starter models, a Single Neuron adaptive PID Rotation Tracking Controller, whose PID parameters are tuned on line, is applied to fulfill the starter rotation control performances. The measured field data indicates that the system has rapid response, high precision and strong robustness.Smooth curve of starter mechanical properties must be generated from all the discrete data. Based on characteristics of considerable volume and segmented changes data, a method involved in piecewise fitting and smooth processing between two adjacent segments is presented. Referring to least-square principle, the best fitting polynomial coefficient are gained in every data segment and boarder between every two adjacent segments to draw smooth mechanical performance curves. To verify the stability of the system, the same starter is tested tens of times under the same condition. The data comparison result illustrates that the designed system possesses high stability, meets all the requirements of repeatability and achieves the international similar system features.
