The key points for a modern vehicle are good ride and low noise, vibration and harshness (NVH). The engine excitations are the main noise and vibration sources for the vehicle. Therefore, the powertrain mounting system (PMS) plays an important role to decide the level of the vibration and noise in the cab. Increasing the performance of the PMS to isolate the chassis vibration due to the engine excitations is important to control the NVH for a vehicle.Based on reading many literatures, the research on the engine excitations, modeling the PMS, and understanding the kinetic energy distributions are proposed in this paper. The design strategy and calculation method for a PMS are analyzed. Then the objective function for natural frequencies placement and energy distributions of a PMS are described. The stiffness and locations of mounts are selected as the design variables. The stiffness ratios of a mount in its local coordinate system are selected as constraints. After the optimization model built, the MATLAB soft is used to program the optimization codes. The optimization results show a good natural frequencies placement and energy distributions for the PMS.The test methods of cab vibration based on the PMS are summarized in this paper. The experiment steps and measure conditions for the vibration are described in detail. Also the data and requirements for the post-process are proposed to reduce the tolerance and improve the reliability as far as possible. The methods summarized in this paper can be a good reference for measuring the cab vibration and evaluating the vibration levels.
