Explosive detection technology is the research topic concerned by almost all countriesin the world. Fast and effective detection of hidden explosives are very important tofight against terrorists and reduce bloodshed. At present the main elements ofexplosives is H, N, O, C, in the explosives. The density ratio of element (C/O, N/O,H/O, etc.) is different from other Materials. This article mainly introduces explosivedetection methods existed currently, also pulsed fast-thermal neutron analysis(PFTNA) and a explosives detection system using PFTNA are presented in this paper. The explosives detection system contains 14 MeV pulsed neutron generator as aneutron source, BGO detector. We used the neutron source to irradiate explosives andthen measured the non-elastic scatteringγspectra and thermal neutron captureγspectra. In this experiment the urea samples were measured. At the same timedifferent samples were simulated by MCNP program under different experimentalconditions. Different spectra were simulated and compared to find out discrepancy toestablish the new experimental system.
