Investigation And Research On Ground Covers In Nanjing Parks

Ground covers play an important part in modern gardens and they are basic materials of landscape.For the ecological and landscape benefit, the ground covers will be more and more attached important to application in urban construction. Urban park, as an important part of city ecosystem, plays an important role in reliefing current city environment question and protecting the urban ecology. So it's necessary to investigating the breeds of cultivated ground covers in Naning parks, providing the theoretical basis for the application in the future.This paper takes the Nanjing urban park green space as the objects of investigation and research. Studing and analyzing on the resource of the ground covers. First of all, it applies vegetation ecology methods such as community species composition, section character, style character, community quantitative features, analysis of current situation. The prospects of the apply of breeds of cultivated ground covers were put forward. Secondly, this paper takes the urban ecology, landscape ecology and so on related discipline as the theoretic base. Analysis the respective district.Analyzing the way of landscape design with ground covers in different types of green space of parks,inducing the principle of design,the analyse and construction of ground covers in the landscape.The main conclusions of this paper were as follows:(1) Some of the traditional ground covers to be effective and widely used, such as Loropetalum chinense van rubrum,Rhododendron mucronatum,Fatsia japonica,Ophiopogon japonicus,Iris tectorum,Hosta plantaginea and so on. The using of these plants increased the plant-level and enriched the garden scenery.(2)For the different parks,the plant essential similarity are between 20%-50%. there is a close link, but also reflects the characteristics of different parks. The new breeds of ground covers in parks make the city more prominent.(3)The Ornamental Characteristics:The application frequency of flowers and fruits was rich. Especially in the spring and summe. The colors of them were warm. The function of colourful ground covers become more and more important.(4)The using of ground covers in the number and types in Nanjing parks follow the principles of landscape aesthetics. The biological characteristics must be considered when ground covers were used in landscape. The landscape senery in vertical view also not be ingored. The ornamental fruit, and colorful foliage ground covers have become an increasing emphasis on community gardens. The different functional areas of the parks use the different ground covers. However, some types of sampes exist some problem such as the kind of ground covers are not rich, the sight are not changing follow the seasons.(4) The resource of the ground covers in Nanjing parks are not very rich. The species composition of ground covers are more herbal plant. The indigenous plants of the investigative areas are lack.
