Turbine is a kind of high-speed rotary prime mover which uses stream as working fluid. It converts heat energy into mechanical energy. Rotor is an important component of turbine which takes charge of energy conversion and torque transmission. The traditional design methods often need repeated calculation to establish the models, which results in the low efficiency. In fact, various types of rotors are similar in structure. If variant design method was applied to the rotor designing, it would greatly reduce duplicate work and improve design efficiency.Aiming at this fact, Pro/TOOLKIT, which is the second developing tool of Pro/E, is used to set up a variant design system of turbine rotor in VC++.net2003 development environment. Thus the rapid design of turbine rotor is achieved. Based on the establishment of this system, the following aspects are carried out in this paper:First, the structure of turbine rotors and every part of them are analyzed. According to the structural characteristics of turbine rotor, variant design programs are identified. After that, on the basis of variant design technology, the constraint united driven and dimension driven methods are researched. The Pro/E template models are established through the optimization combination of their characteristics and the constraints of parameter relationship formulae. And the main constraint is extracted. Then the control technology of Pro/TOOLKIT is studied, and the control of template models'characteristics and parameters are realized.Next, according to the basic principles of group technology and classification coding system, the classification and coding system of turbine rotor is established. On the basis of this system, the similar standards of turbine rotors are built by adopting characteristic bit code field method. Thus the rotor models can be encoded and classified into groups. This makes the future management and call more convenient. And it plays a role in the optimization of turbine rotor's variant design system.Finally, based on the analysis and theories, a turbine rotor's variant design system is established. The overall structure of this system, the features of each module and the using methods are explained in detail.
