Concrete face rock-fill dam (CFRD), a new type earth-rock dam with less investment, convenient construction, high safety and widespread applications, develops rapidly in recent decades. Followed by accumulated dam contruction experience and advanced scientific research, CFRD matures gradually and has become a priority dam for the design in many countries around the world. However, the dam design theory is still in experience stage and is not mature enough. The dams already built mainly refered to previous constructing experience as well as further analogy method. The observation, especially the analysis and evaluation of dam observation data under safe operation, can be considered as the basis of direct experience and is important to CFRD development, which is still the basis for the theriotic reserch. Based on the observation data of a reservoir CFRD, a depth study was carried out. The specific work is as follows:The deformation mechanism and the influencing factors of rockfill and face slab of CFRD were analysed, then the relevent deformation characteristics were expounded comprehensively;Common analysis methods of CFRD observation data and finite element analysis methods of CFRD were shown and several statistical regression analysis methods were briefly described;The observation data of a reservoir CFRD was arranged and then analysed qualitatively by conventional methods.Statistical regression methods were applied to make quantitative analysis to the internal deformation and the seepage of the dam;Comparing the analysis results of observation data with similar projects, the dam safety conditions were evaluated refering to relevant specifications. A number of recommendations to the dam safety monitoring were proposed;The finite element method simulation was applied to the internal deformation during dam construction and different water storage stages, and the analysis results were compared with measured results of the observation.
