With the rapidly developing of digital integrated circuit technology, voltage regulator module (VRM) as the power supply of digital integrated circuits also has new developing trend:fast transient response, high power density, low voltage, large current output, and high stability output etc. Therefore, the related technology and the design difficulty of VRM, especially for the research of enhancing its transient response speed, which has important significance in the development of VRM in the future.This dissertation presented the purpose and significance of VRM researching first, and reviewed the developing process and several typical topology of VRM, then elaborated the related technology and the key problems of VRM designing, and also discussed some methods and key points of enhancing transient response speed of VRM, finally in order to meet the CPU's requirements to VRM:fast dynamic response, high efficiency, and low voltage large current output etc, according to the future developing trend of VRM, and combining with the company's actuality and engineering requirements, which studied the new VRM two-stage converter.The design of the new VRM two-stage converter has advantages:good thermal stress distribution and the output voltage of VRM can be zero ripple when it's steady working etc. In the result, it validated the feasibility of converter with this structure by simulation and experiment, which showed that the ripple cancellation function of this converter could realize output voltage zero ripple, reduce the output filter capacitance and output filter inductance, and effectively improve its transient response characteristics and so on. |
