Nowadays, with the rapid development of the domestic transport and the hydroelectric industry, a large number of high head, high-capacity hydropower stations have been built. In this case, the dam navigation has become an urgent problem but it has not been completely solved. As another navigation building in addition to lock, ship lift has a lot of advantages, such as less water consumption and investment, low cost and over boat speed. The Research and development of ship lift have been reached a consensus in the domestic water conservancy circles. Hydraulic ship lift belongs to large-scale and stress complex space thin-wall construction. It is a new project of system which combines lock filling and emptying system, ship hydraulics, ship lift machinery, structure, operation detection and computer monitoring technologies together. The important content in anti-seismic design of structure is to evaluate and ensure the reliability of this ship lift under the seismic force. However, there are little researches in this field in China and abroad. Moreover, there isn't a mature design specifications of the hydraulic ship lift. Because of this, the engineers can only draw lessons from the standards and specification in foreign countries.China is a country which often suffered from earthquakes with the characteristics of high frequency, high strength, wide distribution and shallow position of the seismic source. From the dynamic analysis of a ship lift under the seismic load, we can not only ensure the structure in safe operation normally, but also can make sure that it have enough safety that doesn't let the so-called phenomenon "Ordinary incentive but Huge response" happen while encountering the earthquake.Based on collecting and summarizing the experience of the predecessors, this paper uses a large general finite element software ANSYS to analyze, combined with the real project of a certain ship lift in Yunnan province. Firstly it calculates the stresses and the deformation of the ship lift tower. Then it takes a dynamic analysis of the tower using the mode analysis response spectrum method and the dynamic time-history analysis method respectively. The contrast between the results under the viscous-spring artificial boundary and the fixed boundary using the dynamic time-history analysis method are also showed. In the end, it gives a final evaluation on the rationality of the design, the whole and the local safety of the structure.
