A novel coaxial cam-linkage indexing mechanism is studied in this paper on the demand of higher-speed and high-accuracy indexing in automatic machinery. The structure and the transmission principle have been systematically analyzed. On the basis of discussing the structure synthesis and dimension synthesis, the geometric characteristics, kinematic and dynamic design had been systematically discussed. Compared with the conventional indexing cam mechanisms, the mechanism has a more compact structure due to the coaxial input/output arrangement. A variety of feasible dividing transmission design schemes can be derived. It provides a new train of thought of a new type of indexing institutions coaxial innovative design. The following works have been accomplished:1) The structure and the transmission principle of the novel cam-linkage indexing mechanism have been systematically analyzed. On this basis, working condition parameters and scale parameter of the cam mechanism have been defined. The conjugate cam profile is deduced from the transmission principle. The geometric characteristics are systematically analyzed.2) The geometric constraint equations are built. Scale parameters of the cam mechanism and its affect on geometrical characteristic have been systematically analyzed. Then a general method of the scale parameter design of the coaxial cam-linkage indexing mechanism is put forward.3) The multi-body system dynamics theory is described. And base on the multi-body system dynamics theory, the multi-body dynamic model of the cam mechanism is established. Kinematics and rigid body dynamics of the novel indexing mechanisms were studied.4) The modeling method of the conjugate cam was discussed. The virtual prototypes of the indexing mechanisms were developed, and base on this, the simulation is finished Thus verified the feasibility of the novel coaxial indexing mechanism.
