Nowadays, more and more new materials and technologies were constantly emerging, which had been applied to the research of the arch bridge reinforcement. Our research group proposed a new reinforcement method by the change girder-arch spandrel construction in this context. This method was through changing the structure force system and stress to improve the bearing capacity. Furthermore, it had achieved good effect in many practical engineering. However, these studies of the method were mainly directed against the specific examples, moreover, which were almost on construction level, and did not having a deep and systematic research on the reinforcement effect. Therefore, in order to promote the reinforcement technique better, this paper made a comprehensive evaluation the reinforcement effect, especial through these aspects, such as the finite element simulation, after loading test and reliability evaluation. Generally, the paper proved the new reinforcement method for arch bridge in-service was reliable and effective.The key works performed in this paper were as follows:1,Expounded the open-spandrel arch bridges disease characteristics, and analyzed them bearing potential totally. Given a comprehensive introduction about the change girder-arch spandrel construction reinforcement, expounded its reinforcing principle, measures and reinforcement technique points. Introduced the concept of standardization innovate, summarized the standardization process of change girder-arch spandrel construction consolidation method.2,Established an evaluation criteria about change girder-arch spandrel construction reinforcement method, combining reliability theory, finite element theory and load test made comprehensive evaluation, established an evaluation process of this method.3,By the means of combining the theoretical analysis and practical research, relied on seven river medium-sized project, used the above mentioned assessment process to make an evaluation on the reinforcement effect. Validated the change girder-arch spandrel construction method to improve the structure bearing capacity was correct and feasible.
