As an important aspect of municipal road and highway design, Road cross section design is directly related to the success of urban planning. The efficiency and the Human-computer interaction function of its software, directly impact on municipal road and highway design efficiency. Excellent road cross section design software can not only significantly reduce the workload, improve efficiency, but also can make designs more reasonable and intuitive. This paper base on the understanding of road cross section and application of CAD technology, and combine with the history of civil engineering CAD software development, and profound insight the situation of the development of CAD software for Road cross section design system at home and abroad. Finally, according to the need of upgrade of municipal engineering MECAD software, and around the actual Road cross section design, this paper develop independent, intelligent CAD system for Road cross section design.Through comparing various types of Road cross section design at home and abroad, and analyzing every part of Road cross section design and their constraints, this paper summary up the features of every elements of design and the features of constraints of these elements. Then, using graph theory and topological theory, develop new Road cross section design software. The main innovation of the system is to use graph theory to establish the topology model, data storage model and constraints model, and then integrate the three to format graph model. Then develop software that make the design process more clear and the constraints of elements of design more complete in the Road cross section design.
