ALL Terrain Vehicle became more and more important and useful in the fields of entertainment, agriculture and fire protection, etc. The export of ATV in China has raised yearly. Many motor manufacturers began the corresponding new products design and research. However, traditional carburetor-fueled ATV engines could not meet the requirements of high power, low fuel consumption and less emissions pollution. And it is well known that the electronic controlled fuel injection system is the best way to satisfy the comprehensive requirements of gasoline engines.In this paper, based on the LX700ATV (using CVT700 engine) made in Chongqing Loncin Industry, Delphi MT705 electronic injection system was chosen. The research targets are to make vehicle's exhaust emissions fulfill Chinese stage III emissions regulation of motorcycles with good power output and fuel economy. The main research works are as follow:(1) Analysis of exhaust emissions control solutions in the fields of domestic and foreign ATV application, and the situation, importance and inevitability of related electronic injection system application of ATV.(2) Fundamental analysis of the electronic injection system and the key factors impacting engine performances. Design of ATV electronic injection system, and choice and calibration of system key parts were carried out. The ATV prototype with electronic injection system has developed also in the research.(3) Control strategies analysis, ECU function definition, and typical injection, and ignition algorithms of the electronic injection system have been introduced based on LX700 ATV in this paper.(4) Calibration methods, testing system and evaluation standards have set up in the research. The optimized air-charging efficiency, injection and ignition MAP at different running modes, such as engine cranking and idling, acceleration and deceleration, etc were achieved by engine bench testing and vehicle chassis testing. Reliability and adaptive ability of the electronic injection system could also be validated by road testing and environment calibrations.This project came from application research of large volume ATV with electronic injection system in Loncin Industry. After more than two years development, the ATV prototype reached the desired targets. Testing data showed that the exhaust emissions met the requirements of China Stage III emissions regulations of motorcycles. And the power output of engines was also improved at same time, fuel economy satisfied the customers. The achievement of this project was to set up the basis for Loncin large displacement motorcycle engine development in the future.
