As a kind of common and more important discharge structure, hydraulic characteristics of the spillway has been much concern about water conservancy sector. As a new form of discharge structure ,stepped spillways are also increasingly used in practical engineering, and also ,previous has done a lot of trials research and achieved rich results.Stepped spillway was used in Simutasi hydropower station, in this paper, model test method is used to study the hydraulic characteristics of the stepped spillway ,at the same time,we obtained the water line, pressure, flow rate , aeration characteristics and other hydraulic characteristics, and with the help of transect, water surface were calculated, and the results consistent with the model test results is well.At the same time, this paper is on the basis of the N-S equation, using the standard k ~εturbulence model, witn the help of VOF method for free surface, using structure grid to deal with the boundary of the complex structure. Discrete control equation optimized format and PISO algorithm for pressure correction , established a three-dimensional numerical model of spillway flow field. Through the numerical simulation for the whole flow field of stepped spillway in Simutasi hydropower station, the free surface was calculated and simulated well. At the same time, the velocity field , the hydraulic pressure and other characteristics of the data were obtained in detail, by the comparative analysis between the numerical simulation results and model test results , we found that the data obtained are in good agreement except pressure.Through the establishment of two-dimensional model of shear force against the stepped spillway was simulated, and the upper level and the level surface of the water main and water main between the horizontal and vertical level within the shear force changes, in different stages of exploring the stage flow shear stress under the same flow rate changes and the different steps of the shear force of change, change and development carried out its initial exploration.
