The Research On The Development Of Space Of The Hui Enclave: A Case Study Of Xi'an

Hui enclave in Xi'an old urban district is an unique settlement of ethnic groups in the old city zone, which not only continued and developed the space enviroment, but also loaded intangible cultural heritage. It formed its own nationality culture, and is an important part of urban cultural diversity at the same time. As an important historical and cultural city blocks, Hui enclave in Xi'an old urban district inevitably faces the practical problems of protection and renewal. How to keep its own culture from being overwhelmed by the tide of urbanization is a difficult task that Hui enclave in Xi'an old urban district faces.Using the method of community researching, from the perspective of community space's composition, structure, characteristics, and dynamic mechanism, related factors of Hui enclave, as well as its influence and role were comprehensively analyzed and studied, its spatial characteristics and culture resources were combinged, also various elements were evaluated in this essay to obtain the conservation and regeneration measures of Hui enclave.The overall research framework and the main technical route were defined in the introduction (Chapter1 ), based on this, the development research of the space of Hui enclave was conducted in the main body of this essay whose main contents include 2 parts:The cummunity researching of the space of Hui enclave was conducted in the 1st part which falls into 3 levels.The historical development and constituent elements of the space of Hui enclave were discussed (in Chapter 2) from the perspective of perceptual knowledge and the differences between Hui enclave and General urban communities were defined. The structure and characteristics of the the space of Hui enclave were dissertated (in Chapter 3) from the perspective of conceptual knowledge. Combining the impacts of the cultural, economic and geographical factors on community space, the essential features that the space of Hui enclave was caused by urban residential segregation was reached. Based on the above studies, the dynamic mechanism of the development of Hui enclave was proposed (in Chapter 4) and the 2 forms of its spatial development were summarized.The researching on the protection and regeneration of the space of Hui enclave was conducted in the 2nd part. The evaluation system of material and cultural resources of the space of Hui enclave was proposed, while at the same time, the evaluation of its elments was conducted. Based on this, the conclusions of its protection and regeneration were reached (in Chapter 5).Finally, taking the development and research of the space of Hui enclave in Xi'an old urban district as a case study, the references to help to solve the problems in the transformation of old city in similar cities were brought forward(in Chapter 6).The main innovations of this esssy includes: first, using cummunity researching method to study the space of Hui enclave. Second, proposing the conservation and regeneration measures based on the evaluation system of material and cultural resources of the space of Hui enclave, which is more scientific.
