A Regional Cultural Study On The Interior Design Of New Chengdu Railway Station

Railway station as an important part of the railway network is the binding site of urban and railway. For a city, the special significance of railway station is not merely represented in its external appearance.Moreover, it is the first gateway of the city, which could dicide passagers' initial impression of the city. Meanwhile, it is the first place that the homecoming people arrive at the firtile land of their hometown. Thus,the design significance of railway station is to meet the basic functions of passagers' comfort and the convenience for quick evacuation, and to show the characteristic and culture of the city in the standpoint of the city.This thesis is to study the the shaping of regional culture in the interior space from the perspectives of nature, culture, and material technique, comparing with the curruent rigid decoration which is lack of local characteristics. Furthemore, this thesis is to figure out the regional and specialized approaches of interior design for the railway station through creating a railway station space with a strong local cultural atmosphere with shaping the different cultural character in the different space, the combination of local materials from different areas,and using the different cultural decorative symbols. Finally, this thesis tries hard to enlighten the further interior design of the railway station by the case study of the interior design of new Chengdu railway station, and generally summarizing the detailed design methods and ideas on space, color, lignting, material and decoration about the regional characteristic in the railway station interior space.
