Based on the study on the feasibility of the Broadening Schemes of Hang-jin-qu Expressway from Hongken to Jinhua, this paper emphatically analysed the broadening of multi-lane expressways.(1)According to the research of the history, the economy and the features of the traffic in this area, the author adopted the popular "Four Periods Methods" to calculate the capacity of the traffic, thus reckoning on the demand of the traffic and the distribution of the road net in the future.(2)According to the capacity of the traffic and the number of the road lanes, the paper put forward the necessity of the early construction of broadening the expressway from Hongken to Jinhua.(3)According to the present conditions of the project and the geology in this area, the paper analysed the problems of the feasibility of the broadening schemes, especially after comparing various plans of Xingling Tunnel and Wang Shi ling Tunnel. The author found that broadening both sides of the road is proper to long tunnels while for short tunnels, digging out roadbed is better.The paper offered the guiding ideology for the broadening of expressways with tunnels in the mountain areas. It also provided some guided planning and experience for similar projects.
