In order to meet the demands of micro turbine engine (MTE) engineering application, several key technical problems of electronic engine controller (EEC) which is based on DSP have been studied in this paper. Firstly, after some optimization designs, a DSP-based EEC IV is developed on the basis of EEC III which is based on PIC MCU. Secondly, the bypass operation mode of EEC which is based on serial communication is described, and the performance of the closed-loop control system is analyzed when delay or datagram missing happened. To meet the field application demand, a data terminal is developed, which can match with the EEC IV.In the process of developing EEC IV, the application-oriented demands are analyzed at first. Then, the design and application problems of EEC III based on PIC MCU are summarized. After that, the overall design of DSP-based EEC IV is proposed. After that, improvement and optimization methods for each module are illustrated. Performance tests and trial runs show that EEC IV has a good real-time performance and a satisfactory control effect from starting up process to rated status.EEC IV exchanges data with the host-computer through serial communication, when it works in the bypass operation mode. But delay or datagram missing may affect the control performance of the system. So, the mechanism of delay and datagram missing are analyzed firstly in the paper. Then, the stability of closed-loop control system with delay or datagram missing is analyzed, and the dynamic performance which is influenced by different delay time or missing rate is studied. Results show that the system can remain stable within a little delay time, but the datagram missing which happened in feedback channel can affect the dynamic performance badly.A DSP-based data terminal with LCD as the human-computer interface is proposed, and the design methods of each software and hardware modules are discussed in detail, as well as the communication protocol with EEC IV. Demonstration tests have showed that this equipment has the abilities of on-line programming for control parameters and real-time monitoring of the MTE, which can meet the field application demand.
