Generator Rotor is an important component of the generator, and rotor winding inter-turn short circuit is a common turbo-generator failure. Power system is failure due to the health of generator, which could lead to partial power outage and the whole system crashes. So the early warning of turbo-generator rotor inter-turn short circuit is essential.First the paper analysis of the previous scholar's theory and practice of on-line fault diagnosis technique based on search coil method for detecting inter-turn short circuits in turbo-generator rotor winding; after the wavelet theory application in the diagnosis of failure is studied, we can see that it is important to choice the right vanishing moments to reduce the impact of the armature reaction; aimed at completely different properties of induced electric potential signals in the air gap and noise characteristic of the generator operated in different conditions is analyzed, wavelet transform and modulus maximum noise elimination algorithm is presented; according to the singularity and symmetry of signal failures, it is easily to detect shorted turns fault and find the fault position in turbo-generator rotor windings. The concerned theory and example above is verified in MATLAB environment concretely. Based on this, use of Ruitai TMS320VC33 development board, design of its external interface circuit, and to field data acquisition, wavelet transform, modulus maximum noise elimination algorithm burn in the development board FLASH. Finally, a set of online testing for the generator rotor inter-turn short circuit detection independent device is developed. Theoretical analysis and experimental results show that the method is particularly suitable for on-line fault detection of inter-turn short circuit in turbo-generator rotor windings.
