When rotor winding inter turn short circuits happens in turbine generators, its electromagnetic characteristic and the related electrical parameters will change. Based on this characteristic, the finite element method is proposed for rotor winding inter-turn short circuits fault in turbine generator, the electromagnetic field distribution are obtained by the finite element procedure,the harmonic analysis of the air gap flux density is carried out,the induced electromotive force diagram of air gap are obtained by using the detecting coil method. Through the comparison of the electromagnetic field distribution, and harmonic and the induced electromotive force of air gap under normal and fault conditions ,the fault characteristic of rotor winding inter turn short circuits can be identified, The foundation for further analysis of rotor winding inter turn short circuits fault is laid.
