Web Based CAD System For Framed Wooden Box

The framed wooden box is widely used in packaging, of which the structural design is a key factor for the successful application. During the design process, lots of handbooks and standards need to be referred to and the parameters calculation is quite complicated, resulting in the low efficiency and difficulty to ensure accuracy. Developing the parametric CAD system for the framed wooden box can improve the specialization and standardization of the design process. However, the traditional parametric CAD system always runs on the local host computer, which greatly limits its application. One of the available approaches is to establish the parametric CAD system for the framed wooden box aiming to Web service. In the thesis, the parametric design system for the framed wooden box was developed based on Solidworks by Visual Basic. Furthermore, the application of Web service on the parametric CAD system for the framed wooden box was presented combining PHP and MySQL. The main contents and conclusions are as follows:(1) The secondary development technology of Solidworks was discussed. The parametric CAD system for the framed wooden box was built by integrating Visual Basic with SolidWorks API.(2) The whole structural framework of the parametric CAD system for the framed wooden box aiming to Web service was presented. The key techniques such as system interface, storage and access of data, transaction processing and document invoking were solved. Then the Web based design system was successfully achieved.(3) The parametric CAD system for the framed wooden box aiming to Web service provides enriched function. While the users visit the relevant Web page, they can inquire and browse the necessary framed wooden boxes. Once the basic parameters of boxes are input, the box model meeting the requirement can be created on line. In addition, the box model can be viewed in 2D and 3D forms. The download of the box model is also available. Hence, the share and shortcut of the design process of the framed wooden box are implemented.
