In recent years, with the rapid development of road transport, a lot of research on road maintenance under normal and natural conditions have been done, which is very fruitful and constructive. These researches are of great importance to the safe and fast road operation. However, there are fewer research on road maintenance under abnormal conditions, such as low temperature, rain, snow, frost and so on, which has severely limited the road operation in exceptional climate.Through the research into the applicability of current maintenance technologies in Tibet which is of high altitude and low temperature, this paper aims to provide a basis for the right, economic and efficient road maintenance in Tibet. First of all, this paper concluded the current maintenance technologies and analyzed the treatment of different hazards. This paper also analyzed the influence of the climate, hydro geological conditions, geographic features of Tibet on road conditions. Based on the survey of road conditions in Tibet, the paper studied the types and distribution law of hazards in the road surface and road bed of three roads leading to Tibet and further analyzed the forming reasons of these hazards and the treatment of typical hazards. As last, this paper introduced the differences between the current maintenance technologies and the maintenance technologies utilized in Tibet and analyzed the inapplicability of some of the current maintenance technologies in Tibet. This paper will promote the development of maintenance technologies, which is of great significance to reducing and relieving the hazard in road surface and bed, to guaranteeing the fast and smooth road operation.
