With China's rapid economic growth, continues cultural exchange with foreign countries, the rising living standards of citizens, all these lead to the great demand of the traffic, and the traffic problems has become one of the most important issues. How to solve urban traffic problem has become an urgent task. Public transit is a critical infrastructure for the survival of a city, and it's a result of the city's development. Compared with cars, the public transit occupy fewer road resources, higher passenger volume and using less energy, as the city's important infrastructure, the public transit provide the majority equal rights of travel and the use of road resources, these reflect the fair and justice of the social. Therefore, the propose of "bus priority", make reasonable and correct evaluation for urban public transit when planning, not only relates to the service levels of the public transit, but also to the city's overall development.How to make a fast and efficient evaluation of the urban public transit, it is difficult to continue if we use traditional measures on the paper or rely CAD, because they can not store data, and need to do a lot of duplicate work, however, based on the powerful spatial analysis function of Maplnfo and building a GIS database system, can greatly improve the efficient of urban public transit evaluation. This paper introduces the framework of the public transit on the basis of database systems, study on the methods of the abstract of the public transit, and established the urban public transit database system based on MapInfo, then select a number to evaluation indexes which can reflect the characteristics of the urban public transit network, and do some research on the algorithm of these indexes based on MapInfo platform. Finally, based on the Xi'an GIS public transit database system, chose route length, network density, repetition factor, non-linear coefficient, site coverage and several other indexes that can best reflects the characteristics of the public transit network, then evaluate the current public transit network of Xi'an.
