In this paper, the research background and the developing trend of 12.7mm machine gun is briefly introduced, one 12.7mm machine gun with tripod mount is chosen as study object, the 3D-model of the gun is created, simulation analysis of the gun is done in the simulation software Adams.Based on the Classical interior ballistics theory, a mathematics model has been established, then we get chamber and gas chamber pressure during the period of interior ballistic and period of after-effect by calculating program written by VB language. The virtual prototyping model of the gun is built in the simulation software Adams basing on virtual prototyping technology. Based on Flexible multi-body dynamics, the tripod mount is made into flexible body, and motion simulation of rigid-flexible coupling is done in this paper, then motion curves of automatic mechanism and backward force of the gun is got. It shows an effective way for further study of the gun.The 12.7mm machine gun with tripod mount still has some shortcomings. For example, the backward force and collision force are big. According to floating principle, two-degree dynamic model and two-degree collision model of weapon system is built, annular spring is chosen as floating mechanism in this paper. Simulating the process of the gun floating shooting shows the result that the backward force is significantly reduced, and the efficiency of reducing backward force is 41%. So, the conclusion is that it's possible for the 12.7mm machine gun with tripod mount to floating shoot. As a basic study, theoretical guidance for studying and improving properties of large caliber machine guns in the future is provided in this paper.
