Polyaniline/Cotton conductive composite fabrics were prepared by chemical in-situ polymerization in this paper. The absorption of Polyaniline on cotton was improved by the graft copolymerization of acrylamide on cotton fabric and alternated self-assembly.The influences of reaction conditions to the conductivity and K/S of composite fabric were studied and the optimal reaction condition was determined. The properties of Polyaniline/Cotton composite fabrics such as strength, water repellency and antibacterial property were investigated in comparison with the those of pure cotton, then the conductive composite fabrics were also characterized by FTIR,TGA and SEM techniques. In the first section, the graft copolymerization of acrylamide on cotton fabric was studied with potassium persulfate as initiator through comparing potassium persulfate with ammonium persulfate. The influences of pick-up,the concentration of initiator and monomer, the reaction time, curing temperature and time on grafting yield were investigated and the optimal reaction condition was determined. Then Polyaniline/Cotton conductive composite fabrics were prepared by chemical in-situ polymerization on the grafted cotton. The influences of the concentration of ammonium persulfate, aniline, hydrochloric acid and the reaction time to the conductivity and K/S of composite fabric were studied.By contrasting, graft brought on an improvement of about one order of magnitude to the conductivity of composite fabric. The conductive composite fabrics were characterized by FTIR,TGA and SEM finally. In the second section,Polyaniline/Cotton conductive composite fabrics were prepared by deposition of polyanion(PSS) and polycation(Aniline cation) alternately. The pretreatment process with PSS is discussed at first, then The influences of the reaction time, the concentration of aniline and doping acid, different doping acid and the amount of bilayer to the conductivity and K/S of composite fabric were studied and the optimal reaction condition was determined. In the end,the conductive composite fabrics was characterized by FTIR,TGA,SEM and compared with composite fabrics prepared in the former section. In the third section, the properties of Polyaniline/Cotton composite fabrics such as strength,"intelligent switch" and antibacterial property were investigated in comparison with those of pure cotton.
