The building thermal insulation coatings have gradually attracted the attention due to itcan effectively reduce the surfaces of buildings and indoor temperature. Most of the existinginsulation coating is solvent-based paint, the stain resistance properties of the water-basedinsulation coating is not so good. In view of this, the waterborne building thermal insulationcoatings were prepared by using aqueous film-forming material, in which the coatingsdisplay great sunlight reflectivity, hemispherical emissivity and insulation temperaturedifference as well as good stain resistance properties.Hollow glass microspheres, wood fiber, ceramic microspheres, infrared ceramicpowder organic polymer latex and silica sol were used to prepare the barrier architecturalheat insulation coatings and organic/inorganic reflective heat insulation coatings. Theeffects of PVC, types of pigments and fillers, amounts and particles sizes of pigments andfillers, mass ratio of silica sol and acrylic emulsion [m(SS):m(AE)] on the heat-shieldingproperties were discussed, and the results were given as follow.The properties of heat insulation was greatly improved with the increasing of PVCwhen PVC>LCPVC, while it hardly change when PVC<LCPVC. The properties are alsodifference with different of particles sizes, contents and types of pigments and fillers.In order to prepare the barrier construction thermal insulation coatings, the PVC ofcoating should be controlled in the range of75to85%, hollow glass microspheres andwood fiber should be used as functional fillers. It exhibit the best thermal insulationperformance by adding6-8%of the325-mesh hollow glass microspheres and8-12%of thewood fiber.For the reflective insulation coatings, the PVC of the coatings is about55%. Rutiletitanium dioxide is selected as the pigment due to its highly refractive index; Ceramicmicrospheres and infrared ceramic powder are used as the functional filler. It possess thegood thermal insulation performance by adding10-15%of the600-mesh ceramicmicrospheres, and6-8%of the800-mesh infrared ceramic powder, and1.5of the mass ratioof silica sol and polyacrylate latex.
