Nowadays people focus more attention on sports and health. Sportswear, from theathletes' training clothing to the daily people's leisure clothing, has become an importantpart of ordinary clothing. Because the tight-fitting sportswear could reduce musclevibration, prevent muscle and ligament injury and relieve muscle soreness duringexercise, and it also could effectively improve microcirculation, promote peripheralcirculation and venous return, and finally enhance sports performance. Therefore, theapplication of tight-fit sportswear is increasingly widespread. This study would be mainly focused on investigating the effect of gradientcompression tights on continuous jump. Six healthy male college students were recruitedfor this study. The material was gradient compression tights (GCT) and loose trousers ascontrol (CONT). The influence of gradient compression tights was investigated in termsof pressure distribution, height of jump, speed, force and time of jump, and muscleactivity. And using the method of surface electromyography (sEMG) signal analysisfound out the mechanism of muscle activity. The results could be concluded as follows:the static pressure of GCT was decreased from ankle to thigh while its dynamic pressurevaried periodically; GCT could improve the height of jump; GCT reduced the averagemyoelectric potential (aEMG) and the discharge of muscle, but there was no significantchange in center frequency (CF).The mechanism of muscle activity when wearing GCT was the compression couldmake the central nervous system efficiently coordinate the different muscle groups andfacilitate the production of effective and efficient movement patterns. Optimized musclegroups also enhanced the level of performance and achievement, and ultimately improvethe sports performance. The findings in this study can provide not only physiologicalbasis for designing and manufacturing compression sportswear, but also scientificinstructions and help for customers to choosing professional or leisure sportswear.
