The properties of conventional ZSM-5 catalysts, hierarchical ZSM-5 catalysts and their modified catalysts in benzene alkylation with methanol were studied in this paper. The reactions were carried out on fixed-bed micro-reaction system. The surface structures and acid strength of ZSM-5 catalysts were characterized by means of XRD, BET, NH3-TPD. The results showed that the factors discussed above have certain effects on the catalytic performances of ZSM-5 catalysts. The results showed the properties of MgO and NiO composite modified ZSM-5.The addition of NiO increased the selectivity of xylene, but greatly reduced the conversion of benzene. It also studied P2O5 and MoO3 composite modification ZSM-5, the addition of P2O5 decreased the conversion of benzene.Compared to the conventional ZSM-5, the hierarchical ZSM-5 catalysts displayed high benzene conversion, selectivity of the toluene and xylene and good stability by introducing a lot of mesoporous. The appropriate WHSV was high for the hierarchical ZSM-5 catalysts. The addition of MgO and H3PMo12O40 on the hierarchical ZSM-5 increased the benzene conversion and the selectivity of toluene and xylene. The catalysts containing 9% of MgO and 6% of Mo03(H3PMo12040) showed the best catalytic activities, the benzene conversion were 50.17% and 47.82% respectively.
