As the environmental standard of petroleum products especially fuels becomes stricter, the development of hydrogenation technology is facilitated by the market demand. Thus the consumption of hydrogen in oil refineries is increasing globally. Optimization of hydrogen operation system, reduction of hydrogen and the improvement of economic benefits have become the common issues facing the refinery enterprise. Pinch analysis was adopted to optimize the hydrogen distribution network of Sinopec Shanghai Petrochemical Company Ltd. in the present work. Minimum usage of hydrogen was obtained by combining the composite curve of hydrogen source and hydrogen trap with surplus hydrogen curve. Hydrogen usage was reduced to minimum through the pinch matching principle. To meet the requirements of high purity hydrogen in chemical equipment, a set of the PSA devices was added to Hydrogen network which can reduce the purity of hydrogen and improve the yield of hydrogen in the hydrogen utilities system;Reforming hydrogen, ethylene hydrogen and SECCO ethylene hydrogen can be used directly, besides, exhaust gas can be purified by PSA;After optimizing hydrogen network, one of the hydrogen production unit can be stopped,428 cubic meters hydrogen per minute in utility can be saved. Each year 129.4272 million RMB can be saved through optimizing and reconstructing in three aspects. The concept of pressure levels was introduced to the optimization of Shanghai petrochemical hydrogen network. The super structure model was established by introducing concept of pressure levels into the optimization of Shanghai petrochemical hydrogen network. Operation shows that it can meet the practical production requirements. When # 1 and 2 diesel hydrogenation compressors were out of use,1300 kilowatt-hours of energy which was used to compress hydrogen could be economized each hour,6.44 million RMB energy charge could be saved each year.
