As a third generation host compound of supramolecular, calixarene are macrocyclic molecules with unique cavities in the different size and the different shape like crown ethers and cyclodextrins. Many kinds of calixarene derivatives with versatile properties can be derived by modifying the up-rim and the down-rim of the calixarenes. With special physical and chemical properties, they have been found versatile applications in number of research fields including molecular recognition, catalyst, chromatog raphy, chemical sensors. In this paper, several calixarene derivatives were synthesized, the interactions of p-sulfonic sodium calixarene and HSA were studied by the methods of fluorescence.1. In accordance with literature,at first,we get p-t-butylcalix[4]arene by the reaction of p-t-butylphenol and HCHO.Then we synthesized calix[4]arene through the Friedel-Crafts alkylation.2. 25,27-dihydroxy-26,28-dibuthoxycalix[4]arene and 25,27-dihydroxy-26,28- dihexyloxycalix[4]arene were prepared through an etherification reaction. And the two compounds were characterized by 1H NMR spectrum.3. 25,27-dihydroxy-26,28-dibuthoxycalix[4]arene can be selectively nitration at the para-position of the phenol rings to give 11,13-dinitro-25,27-dihydroxy-26,28- dibuthoxycalix[4]arene(5),then get 11,13-diamine-25,27-dihydroxy-26,28-dibuthoxy- calix[4]arene(6) by the reduction of nitration.4. We discuss the possible mechanisms of preparation about p-sulfocalix[4]arene, and give a new method to synthesis disubstituted p-sulfocalix[4]arene.5. At firtst,we synthesis p-sulfocalix[4]arene,then the fluorescence properties of p-sulfocalix[4]arene and HSA were studied. The result showed that p-sulfocalix[4]arene can quench the fluorescence intensity of HSA. The quenching mechanism of fluorescence of HSA by p-sulfocalix[4]arene was found to be in static quenching procedure. The apparent binding constant K and binding sites number n were measured by fluorescence quenching method. The thermodynamic parameters obtained from measured data at different temperatures showed that the binding of p-sulfocalix[4]arene to HSA is the hydrophobic interaction.
