Naphthopyrans attract much attention because of their numerous potential performances, such as ultra-high-density optical information storage, fatigue resistance and large capacity, etc. The photochromic naphthopyran can be used to modulate"ON-OFF"of the fluorescent switch. The photoswitchable fluorescent device based on naphthopyran is fabricated, in which photochromic compounds match fluorescent dyes.In this dissertation, the modulation of a fluorescent switch based on a controllable photochromic naphthopyran was fabricated. The photochromic copolymer was synthesized by AIBN using naphthopyran monomer and fluorescent monomer. The fluorescent intensity can be tuned reversibly by alternative irradiation with ultraviolet and thermal effect in dark. The photoswitchable fluorescent devices based on naphthopyrans were investigated in solution and films. A naphthopyran derivative and a benzimidazole derivative were synthesized and doped in polymet-hylmethacrylate (PMMA) films. And in this paper there was a simple system in which the fluorescent dye was blended with photochromic naphthopyran in solution. In both means the fluorescent switch was modulated by the photoisomerization of photochromic naphthopyran. However, in solution photoswitchable fluorescent device by doping mode has advantages, such as better fatigue resistance, larger fluorescent intensity change and more quickly fluorescence quenching. The fluorescent intensity of fluorescent switching obtained by doping mode is easily modulated by changing the relative content of naphthopyran and benzimidazole derivative in photoswitchable fluorescent device. This approach of making fluorescent switching is easy, efficient and of high feasibility.
