Naphthopyrans as photochromic compounds have good light responsiveness, rapid fading rate, good light stability, high fatigue resistance and coloring property, photochromic elastomer has been widely explored in the recent decade with thepurpose to enhance existing material properties or to enable new photoinduced effects. In particular, important improvements include photo-induced alignment and relatedphoto induced optical anisotropy, light-induced nanopatterning and nanowriting andvarious properties related to optical and holographic applications. Hydrosilicone oil ispolymer with repeating Si-O as backbone and organic groups can directly link to thesilicon atoms to form elastomers. Because of good flexibility, it was used inmanufacturing elastomer material. Photochromic compounds were combined withhydrosilicone oil so as to synthesis excellent photochromic elastomer which has goodsoftness in the normal temperature. Good softness is conducive to processing in orderto obtain bent and different shapes components. Therefore, we choose naphthopyran as photochromic groups. Subsequently aclass of reticular photochromic elastomer was synthesised by using hydrosilylation. The synthetic compound and polymer structures have been characterized by using thenuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer (NMR) and gel permeation chromatograph(GPC), respectively. We test the content of Si-H in the synthetic photochromicelastomer by infrared spectra. In addition, the coloring process and decolorationprocess and their kinetics of polymers in solution and film were studied using UV-visspectrophotometer (UV-vis). Quantity and type of the compounds and draw ratio canimpact on photochromic performance. The polymer has a fast process of coloring andfading and good fatigue resistance whether it is in solution and film.
