Preparation of organic/inorganic nanocomposites by UV photopolymerization combines the advantages of both nanocomposites and the UV photopolymerization. Different purposes based on the different UV photopolymerization components in the thesis, and the organic/inorganic components were bonded together through chemical bond. The main results were emphasized.1,4-hydroxy benzophenone as raw material, quaternized ammonium photoinitiator was synthesized by reaction of acryloyl chloride with the introduction of double bond, via Michael-Addition reaction with diethylamine, piperazine and 1-docananamine. DEBPI, PDBPI, DDBPI obtained by quaternization reaction with 1-iodopropane. The quaternary ammonium salt photoinitiator as intercalation agent and ion-exchanged with montmorillonite (MMT). The results showed that DEBPI and PDBPI failed to fix in the layers. An ordered swollen structure of the DDBPI-MMT was confirmed by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD). The photoinitiator mass fraction in montmorillonite calculated according to the thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA)2,Prepared modified montmorillonite DDBPI-MMT was used as both the initiator and nanofiller, TPGDA as reactive diluents, CN964 as oligomers, photopolymerization under different light intensities. FTIR characterization results showed even only 0.5wt% modified-montmorillonite could initiate the free radical polymerization with 80% acrylate double bond conversion on 30 mW/cm2 exposure. The random dispersion of silicate layers in the polymer matrix was confirmed by XRD and TEM measurements. The morphology of nanocomposites was partially exfoliated.3,Quaternary ammonium salt initiators BDMBI,BDMBD and BDMBB was synthesized by the reaction of 2-phenyl-benzy1-2-dimethylamino-1 -- (4-benzyl-phenyl-morpholine)-butanone (BDMB) with iodomethane, dodecyl bromide and 1-bromodecane. BDMBI and BDMBD was ion-exchanged with montmorillonite (MMT) in ethanol and water as mixed solvent. However, TGA and XRD characterization showed that the initiators failed to interclated into the montmorillonite layers. BDMBB was ion-exchanged with montmorillonite (MMT) in methanol and water as mixed solvent. Thermal gravimetric analysis showed a small amount of organic initiator was fixed in the montmorillonite. XRD indicated that the d spacing of the modified clay was enlarged to 1.54nm,0.33nm larger than the origin montmorillonite. It could be speculated that only a small amount of initiator was inserted into the layers of montmorillonite.
