Free radical photoinitiator is the most detail study of photopolymerization system, which mainly includes Norrish I type (amino ketones, hydroxy ketones, benzils, etc.) and Norrish II type (benzophenones, thioxanthones, anthraquinones, etc.). The hydroxy ketone photoinitiators, such as 1173 and 184, exhibit very good photointiating ability and yellowing resistance. But their photolysis products showed shortcomes of smell, toxicity, which restrict their applications in some fields. In order to solve the drawbacks of small molecule photoinitiator, this study designed and synthesized several polymerizable photoinitiators and small molecule hydroxy ketone photoinitiators. The photochemical properties, cell cytotoxicy, and small molecule residue were compared. And the double bonds introduced in polymerizable photoinitiator can make the photolysis products of the polymerizable photoinitiator fixed in the cross-linked network, to some extent, lead to eliminate the defects of small molecule photoinitiator. The following are the subject of the substances and conclusions:1. Designed and synthesized several polymerizable photoinitiators and small molecule photoinitiators, and with the comparision of the same type commercialized photoinitiators.2. The several photoinitiators have preferable photolysis capacity, can be used to initiate photopolymerization of acrylate monomer, however, the introduction of a double bond can reduce the photoinitiation capacity.3. Determination of the synthesized polymerizable photoinitiator system, small molecule photoinitiator system, and small molecule photoinitiator with the composite of acrylate monomer system, the results of excited-state lifetime and phosphorescence spectra showed that the addition of the acrylate monomer may be extended photoinitiator triplet state lifetime.4. Small molecule residues and cyctotoxicy experiments showed that the polymerizable photoinitiator had eased in odor and toxicity than small molecule photoinitiator.
