Pre-processing is a fundamental part of the injection molding CAE system and it is the premise of the following two parts: numerical simulation and post-processing. It includes several subsystems: mesh model generation, filling system, cooling system, warping system, gas-assisted system and process parameters setting system. Building a unified pre-processing platform for all the subsystems is necessary, which can increase the stability, extensibility and maintainability of these subsystems. This paper focuses on the design and implementation of the pre-processing platform of injection molding CAE system using methods of object-oriented and software reuse. Based on this platform the cooling system is designed and developed.In this paper the architecture of the pre-processing platform is discussed deeply. Firstly extract the common features of all the subsystems according to functional requirements analysis. Secondly design the whole structure and all the components using the object-oriented method. The responsibility and development of the main components are described in details.The design concept and key techniques of the platform, including the underlying behavioral mechanism, the platform of interactive operation and the unified modeling based on lines, are analyzed in this paper. The underlying behavioral mechanism adopts two kinds of software design patterns, command pattern and observer pattern. It is a low coupled system platform on which the interactive operation platform is based. The interactive operation platform improves the extensibility and maintainability of the CAE system. Operations can be added easily and quickly. The unified modeling based on lines first design the central lines, and then set the shape parameters, which simplifies and unifies the modeling processing of all the subsystems.Based on the pre-processing platform, the cooling system of HSCAE is designed and developed. The CAD/CAE integration is also implemented. This paper introduces the improvement of cooling system checking and the insert cooling. The interference checking algorithm is based on mesh model. It ensures that the cooling system does not interfere with the filling system and product model. In order to support the insert as a core, the method of shrinking inserts is presented which can solve the contract problem of mesh models. The method of dividing cooling runners solves the intersect problem between inserts and runners.
