| In the aerospace industry, there are many difficult-to-cut materials need to be machined, titanium alloy and nickel base superalloy for example. Those materials are high hardness and high strength, the cutting tools will be weared seriously when you cut them using mechanical cutting. If we can make EDM milling more efficiency than the mechanical cutting in the cutting of those material, the product cost will be reduced. This paper focused on improving the MRR (material remove rate) of titanium alloy using EDM milling, and analysising the processability of processed workpiece. This paper studied the effect of processing parameters on MRR by designning process experiment. The key elements which were intrapluse and liquid pressure that affect the MRR was founded. Optimized the processing paremeters for high MRR.By collecting the electro-discharge waveform, designed the strategy of electrode feeding rate based on the study of the relationship between gap voltage and processing state. Established the strategy of electrode wear compensation for rough machining of EDM milling.Examined the surface topography, heat-affecting layer, changing of material composition and hardness of heat-affecting zone, founded the surface was full of cracks distributed uniformly which is benefit for mechanical cutting. The processability of the processed workpiece by EDM milling was correspond to the matrix of workpiece also the processed workpiece is harder than the matrix at the fisrt 60um. |
